It is one of the most interesting and surprising play of Wilde. On the basis of the Gospel he tells about the death of John the Baptist and at the same time he extends that biblical story. He changed the accents and motives of actions of the character.
Means, which the puppet theatre owns, let it to show the symbolic sense of and universal meanings of that elaborated drama written by that Irish author. In the performance there is a clash of two different worlds: ethical dubious, dead, disintegrated Herod’s kingdom and reality of spiritual world which comes from Heaven represented by John the Baptist. Salome, Herod’s stepdaughter, who fell in love with John the Baptist, is standing between these two worlds. Her love is definitely going to suffer defeat. Salome is lost in her feelings which are in her heart: an aversion to world in which she grew up, desire of love, lust for revenge after being left. Inspite of all of it, she wants to prove her right to love. She believes that love is stronger than death.
